Specials

I’ve given up chasing specials to try and beat inflation.
I found that trying to save a cent or two brought nothing but frustration.

Take the other week for instance-in looking through the paper I saw at Shoprite I could save five cents on every pound of butter.
At Foodtown there’s a biscuit special.
At Woolworths it is the tea.
At Four Square it’s baked beans that really interests me.

So off I go to one place a couple of miles away.
Then cross country to another, where three cents less I pay.
When to the final place I go and with a trundler wrestle.

I find that here I could pay LESS than the FIRST one had on special.

At last I get home quite worn out with all this special hopping and try to add up the amount I’ve saved by careful shopping.

And when the final count is made I find to my dismay
That when I’ve for my petrol paid
I’ve LOST more than I‘ve saved.
